By taking separate "hiking paths", each skeleton will see new sights, meet new people along the way, and experience new memories, all while holding a deeper emotional connection with the other. This inquiry was used as a smaller representation for the overall idea of love striving in hardship, but blossoming and growing nevertheless. The untamed spirit of the horses is captured by their movement in the painting. Also the vastness of the landscape embraces the idea of endless possibilities signifying their freedom. White was used to create lighter tones; however the combination of red and green created the darker tones. The water drops intrigued me the most and helped to add a textural complexity. I also focused on the lighting and reflection of the droplets. My goal was to develop an image to appear as realistic as possible and capture the freshness of the moment for this tomato.       Title of Art Piece: Ellen and Grandma – I Know the End Category: Mixed Media Student/Artist’s Name: Ellen Whip School: South Anchorage High School Grade: 12th Artist Statement: This mixed media art piece is a representation of a song from the album "Punisher" by Phoebe Bridgers. The song "I Know the End" is about questioning religion, coming to terms with mortality, and leaving behind old ways or belief systems within your lineage. I typed out specific song lyrics onto watercolor paper. From there I glued them onto the pencil and charcoal drawing of my grandma and myself.   • The Rabbit That Lived the Longest

      Title of Art Piece: The Rabbit That Lived the Longest Category: Printmaking Student/Artist’s Name: Sierra Mullikin School: Homer High School Grade: 12th Artist Statement: This project is a multimedia piece made of a mokulito print and some watercolor. Mokulito is a process of printmaking where a design is drawn or painted on a piece of wood with a medium that collects the ink, which is then transferred over to paper. I strengthened my lines with watercolor after I printed, and then colored in some of the details with thin layers of color.   • The Infinite Procession

This piece required many different techniques that were new to me. Making the coffin was the most problematic but a fun learning experience. I had to design the hinge for it to open close, solder all the parts together, and add the surrounding chains to lock it up.       Title of Art Piece: Rainbow Lorikeet Category: Mixed Media Student/Artist’s Name: Anna Rock School: Petersburg High School Grade: 12th Artist Statement: I was inspired by the vibrant, eye-catching colors of Rainbow Lorikeets while making this piece. I also incorporated a few flowers based on one of the Lorikeet's natural food sources, the Weeping Boer-Bean, in an attempt to tie everything together. The bird was painted using bright acrylics to help it to stand out against the background and frame, which had colored with duller paints to hopefully accentuate that effect. I had an amazing time experiencing paper machè as a medium, as well as different clays while sculpting the beak, nostrils, and eyes! I wanted to make something vibrant and nonrealistic that still brought in the concept of marine diversity with it. For this project I used clay and glaze to make the fish, and attached them to the driftwood using metal hooks, glue, and fishing line.
