Rainbow Lorikeet

Title of Art Piece: Rainbow Lorikeet
Category: Mixed Media
Student/Artist’s Name: Anna Rock
School: Petersburg High School
Grade: 12th
Artist Statement: I was inspired by the vibrant, eye-catching colors of Rainbow Lorikeets while making this piece. I also incorporated a few flowers based on one of the Lorikeet's natural food sources, the Weeping Boer-Bean, in an attempt to tie everything together. The bird was painted using bright acrylics to help it to stand out against the background and frame, which had colored with duller paints to hopefully accentuate that effect. I had an amazing time experiencing paper machè as a medium, as well as different clays while sculpting the beak, nostrils, and eyes! I also incorporated some fun leaf beads from Mrs. Lohr's classroom stash to add some visual interest. This was a very fun learning experience.
Artwork Dimensions: 12" x 12" x 7"
