Artist Statement: I was inspired to make this artwork by the diverse array of marine life we have here in southeast Alaska. I wanted to make something vibrant and nonrealistic that still brought in the concept of marine diversity with it. For this project I used clay and glaze to make the fish, and attached them to the driftwood using metal hooks, glue, and fishing line. I started by reclaiming my clay which I then sculpted into fish one at a time. After they were bisque fired, I glazed them. Once out of the kiln I glued on three hooks to the back of each fish, and then tied them to the corresponding hook I drilled into the wood using fishing line.
Artwork Dimensions: 2.5' x 1.5'
