denalireaves and 13 Others Have Liked This Post

April 6, 2022 ASAA

Title of Art Piece: denalireaves and 13 Others Have Liked This Post
Category: Communication Arts / Graphic Design – 2022
Student/Artist’s Name: Delaney Reavis
School: Joe Redington Sr. Jr/Sr High School
Grade: 12th
Artist Statement:

As an artist, specifically a digital artist, I find that my opinion of a piece often rests more heavily on how many likes it gets than on how much I liked making it or what steps I was able to take to improve. I showed this by replacing the often heart shaped “like” button with an actual human heart and a finger clicking it, causing the binary code around it to glitch.

Honorable Mention – Mixed Media

Title of Art Piece: Motivation of an Insomniac
Category: Mixed Media – 2022
Student/Artist’s Name: Kaci Christensen
School: Joe Redington Sr. Jr/Sr High School
Grade: 12th
Artist Statement:

In my AP art class, one of my first assignments was to make an art piece based on an article that was about the mental health effects on teens caused by the overuse and addiction to social media. In the piece, there is a boy laying down on his phone drawn in graphite, behind him is a background based on ‘ The starry night ‘ in acrylic paint. The idea behind this was, he’s missing out on the good things in life because of the depression, and insomnia caused by social media.

The Apple

2nd Place – Mixed Media

Title of Art Piece: The Apple
Category: Mixed Media – 2022
Student/Artist’s Name: Sierra Daniels
School: Joe Redington Sr. Jr/Sr High School
Grade: 12th
Artist Statement:

This piece represents two directions of my art: the exploration of decay, and the temptation of addiction. With a mix of watercolor, ink, and felt pens, I can capture a mere direct representation of these two topics. This piece is intentionally bright, busy, and yet simple to understand.

Body Dysphoria

April 19, 2022 ASAA

1st Place – Communication Arts / Graphic Design

Title of Art Piece: Body Dysphoria
Category: Communication Arts / Graphic Design – 2022
Student/Artist’s Name: Sarah Dundas
School: Joe Redington Sr. Jr/Sr High School
Grade: 12th
Artist Statement:

Behind the mirror is a girl who finds herself stuck in the deep clutches of body dysphoria. Body dysphoria is a minor detail that a person will focus on for hours if it is imperfect in their eyes. People such as the woman in this photo will constantly look in the mirror and compare themselves to others (hence the photos that are taped onto the mirror). Body dysphoria is a big deal here because of the constant worry of imperfection of our own bodies, and I think that we should always be aware that this exists and maybe one day we can love and cherish our own bodies for what they are.
