Honorable Mention – Painting

The idea for this painting came to me while I was driving to skating practice and it came to me so suddenly that I had to pull over and scribbled it on the back of an envelope so I wouldn’t forget. I have always found the idea of nature prevailing after disaster very interesting, so I decided to portray a world where humanity no longer exists and therefore all the plant life has grown over the city. In the painting you can see where plants have grown up out of the road and sidewalks and taken over the sides of the buildings. Some of where there used to be lines in the road are also visible, but it is mostly grown over with grass and other plant life. This is one of my favorite works of art that I’ve ever created. It came out exactly how I pictured it in my mind, and I couldn’t be more happy with it. My personal favorite part of the painting is the finishing touch of the birds in the sky. Originally I hadn’t planned to do that, however when I had finished the painting, I noticed that it was missing something and with a split second decision I added the birds, bringing the painting together.
