Title of Art Piece: Taura the Star Girl
Category: Sculpture – 2024

School: Lathrop High School
Grade: 11th
Artist Statement: I started ceramics in tenth grade, and since then it’s been my go to art class. It’s very easy to get inspired, and it’s cool to be able to make stuff with my hands that I can touch. I made this piece because making masks and faces are what I’m drawn to making. I used neon paints to explore with a different style and palette than what I’m used to. The girl is cocky and proud to be as bright and outrageous as she is. She’s a punk alien girl and her goal is to be bigger and greater than the sun. I was really influenced by Mila Useche;a she makes these big expressive paintings of girls that burst with color and life and I took inspiration from that.
