Not So Big Ben

April 6, 2022 ASAA

Title of Art Piece: Not So Big Ben
Category: Photography – 2022
Student/Artist’s Name: Noah Potter
School: West Valley High School
Grade: 10th
Artist Statement:

I was out taking pictures for an assignment I missed and I saw that the sun was peeking out behind the clock tower, as soon as I saw it I had to snap a picture. The next day I got to school and spent some time editing, before it wasn’t amazing mainly because the clock was covered in shadow. So I added some clarity, exposure, vibrance, and a radial gradient to it which basically made the clock clearer. Lastly I cleaned up some extra clutter mostly on the right side of the photo and then it was finished. Overall I really enjoyed taking and editing the photo even if it doesn’t win anything I’m happy with it.

Student/Artist’s Name: Caden Van Nort
School: West Valley High School
Grade: 11th
Artist Statement:

When I was in Florida I visited the Kennedy space center. I was walking around taking photos of rockets when a butterfly flew around me so I quickly spun to see it land on a flower. When I went to look at the photos I took on my trip, I thought with a little Photoshop I can make the butterfly pop out in color and make for a really cool picture. That is my reason for choosing this photo of the butterfly.

Category: Photography – 2022

The dark shadows and bright highlights of this photograph create a simple yet peaceful scene, and the warm tones of sunlight and wood create an air of silence that envelops the viewer. The dog’s relaxation and appreciation for the soft mattress shows through his expression and posture. When this photo was first taken it was far too dark, however after brightening, this picture shows its full potential and acts as a testament to not giving up too early.

Category: Photography – 2022
Student/Artist’s Name: Ezrah Maio

Artist Statement:

I took the background picture in Homer Alaska while on a bike ride with my dad. The center picture was taken in San Francisco at the top floor of the hotel we stayed at. Normal residents weren’t allowed to go to the top floor and you needed a special card to do so. I had to wait in the elevator until I could follow someone to the top floor who had the card. The rest of the work was done in photoshop.
