Fish Ice Sculpture

April 10, 2017 ASAA

Title of Art Piece: Fish Ice Sculpture
Category: Photography – 2017
Student/Artist’s Name: Amanda Wagner
School: West Valley High School
Grade: 12th
Artist Statement:

When I went to ice park during the night time, I was getting inspired by all of the ice sculptures that were there. I had my photography camera with me. I was feeling pretty tempted to take pictures of the ice sculptures. From them all, I liked the fish ice sculpture the most because of it’s detail design, it’s color, it’s looks, and it just really stand out to me. I tried to get the camera as focus as I could and once I took the shot, it turned out good. Took a few seconds, and because of it being so dark outside, I was able to capture it very well with the amount of light that it had to it.

Time for Reflection

April 10, 2017 ASAA

Title of Art Piece: Time for Reflection
Category: Photography – 2017
Student/Artist’s Name: Celeste Jensen
School: West Valley High School
Grade: 12th
Artist Statement:

I was in Hawaii on vacation with my family, spending time by the pool, when I noticed that there was a cool reflection of the palm trees in the puddles. I quickly ran home to get my camera and when I returned I had to contort myself into some strange positions to get the right angle for the reflections I wanted to capture. I really like this photo because it shows the trees from a unique perspective that I think usually goes unnoticed.

Hand crafted glass enamel bracelet

April 10, 2017 ASAA

Title of Art Piece: Hand crafted glass enamel bracelet
Category: Jewelry / Metalsmithing – 2017
Student/Artist’s Name: Hana Johnson
School: West Valley High School
Grade: 11th
Artist Statement:

This bracelet was made by cutting out nickel circles and doming them. I added enamel to the domes and after laying the base color of enamel I added a pattern. The most challenging part of the bracelet was the stamping. It took a couple tries to get the leaf stamps to look right. The stamp would slide all over the domed, slippery surface smearing the ink. Trial and error over and over again but I got the un-smeared leaf pattern that I was looking for.

Push Down and Turn

April 10, 2017 ASAA

Title of Art Piece: Push Down and Turn
Category: Drawing – 2017
Student/Artist’s Name: Quinn Vinlove
School: West Valley High School
Grade: 12th
Artist Statement:

I was inspired to create this piece based on current trends of prescription drug abuse and overuse of antidepressants, as well as personal observations from time spent in the hospital. Using a drug reference book, I observed the many different pill types, shapes, and patterns before sketching the basic outline of this piece in pencil, then coloring with markers, using multiple layers of different colors to get the shading as smooth as possible.
