Artist Statement: We had a project in our digital arts class – to transform life from classical painting into contemporary life. I chose the painting “At Breakfast” by Karl Maria Schuster. I thought it would be fun to show the old style lady reading news from the iPad. I used the classical painting with combination of photoshop tools (mixed media).

Artist Statement: We had a project in our digital arts class to take a panoramic picture and turn it into a planet. I was inspired by nature and the way all things are connected. My dog got into the picture by accident, but it turned out even better.

Grade: 11th
Artist Statement: During five years of our school, we always used somebody’s falcon, taken from the internet. This year I created a falcon that became our school logo. I am very proud! To create the falcon, I merged three different reference photographs together and based on them drew the falcon image completely the way I wanted. I traced my new falcon creation, added color and incorporated thunder and lightning because we are Thunder Mountain High School! I had two layer font – one was white with a glow and the other was black.

Artist Statement: This piece is a combination of who I am, what I like. I love the color purple and chose this indigo color to go with the dark graphite. The decorative line work shows a part of me that is not tangible.

Artist Statement: Generally I am a “hippy”. I love animals and I love nature. I especially love color. I tried to put as much color and designs as possible on this mask to merge my personality in stone. The wolf is one of my favorite animals so I chose this animal to be the base of my mask and decorated with flowers, “free” lines, a peace sign and plenty of color.

School: Thunder Mountain High School
Grade: 10th
Artist Statement: I settled with an ocean theme after being inspired by a swirling wave pattern I doodled in class. I chose the setting of an anchor and a lighthouse to show the strength of the wind against the battering of a storm of emotions. The lighthouse search light guided lost sailors in the night. I also couldn’t get an aircraft carrier to turn out quite right:)

Artist Statement: This piece was inspired by one of our teachers, Timm Henry, who asked for a logo design for his photography website. Mr. Henry has helped us with a lot of activities by taking awesome pictures, this is a sign for gratitude. My design is a lens from a camera that is capturing Alaskan Scenery, the aurora borealis and ice. To create it, I used Adobe Illustrator, changed a mountain into ice by using the color gradient tool, and shined it up with the sun flare tool. I feel that this represents the hidden beauty of Alaska that reflects in a photographer’s eyes.

Artist Statement: I designed this for our school Yearbook front and back cover – Thunder Mountain High School, the home of falcons. It shows who we really are: we are the Thunder, the proud Falcons and, of course, we are Alaskans.
I used the actual picture of Alaska that we took with our Yearbook class and blended it with drawing and typography using photoshop. The clouds and the lightning were drawn by me from scratch – all of them. I used multiple types of brushes for that. I started with a base sketch idea and over multiple tries and about 4 or 5 different versions until the image was completed.

Artist Statement: I chose the colors having in mind rainfall in Southeast Alaska. The blueish purple is the rain once it falls. After the rain, the flower symbolizes the rainbow. The fur is the white clouds after the rain has escaped.
