Rose of the Ocean

April 4, 2019 ASAA

Title of Art Piece: Rose of the Ocean
Category: Painting – 2019
Student/Artist’s Name: AnnaJane Bailar
School: Chugiak High School
Grade: 12th
Artist Statement:

My art usually involves figures and flora, the flora usually having a hidden meaning or symbol. Because of the two different items in one piece, each one needs to have different textures and weights. To add even more interest, I use bright colors, sometimes dark or muted, just to give it a specific feel or look.

Self Portrait by SW

April 4, 2019 ASAA

Title of Art Piece: Self Portrait
Category: Drawing – 2019
Student/Artist’s Name: Sara White
School: Chugiak High School
Grade: 9th
Artist Statement:

When it comes to my art work I like it to have a graceful appeal. I draw with many lines to get a good shape, and then I add more detail. While I recognize that nothing is perfect in life, I would still consider myself a perfectionist when it comes to creating my art pieces.

Jellyfish

April 4, 2019 ASAA

Title of Art Piece: Jellyfish
Category: Painting – 2019
Student/Artist’s Name: Kirstina Manwaring
School: Chugiak High School
Grade: 11th
Artist Statement:

I would consider my style to be realism, with a burst of color. I wanted to use a broad color pallet to convey different feelings. I decided to use water color for this piece because it allowed me to use a range of soft and dark tones, allowing me to depict my subject matter as a delicate form that can be ridged to the touch. One of the most beautiful aspects about the jellyfish is how their luminescent form interacts with light, and I wanted to convey that natural beauty to my audience.
