Sugar Skull

April 10, 2017 ASAA

Title of Art Piece: Sugar Skull
Category: Mixed Media – 2017
Student/Artist’s Name: Ellisha Borland
School: Ben Eielson High School
Grade: 10th
Artist Statement:

My sugar skull was created to experiment with free-hand drawing and sketching. I also fooled around with mixed media and intricate design. Although it may not look like it, the piece took many hours to complete. My inspiration for this piece was a recent trip to Arizona where I saw many new types of flowers and came across a surprising amount of different candy skull designs. I started by drawing my outline in pencil, then I went over all of the lines in calligraphy pen, and finally, I filled in all of the spaces with watercolor.

Artwork Dimensions: 7.25 inches wide x 10.25 inches high
