A cyanotype is a type of photographic process that uses UV light to create white images on a bright blue background. Inspired by the work of Anna Atkins, I asked a local florist for their end-of-day flower cuttings. I collected the scraps, pressed them, and then used them to create this series of cyanotypes. • Carjack

Title of Art Piece: Carjack Category: Photography Student/Artist’s Name: Esteban Lopez-Rosa School: Bartlett High School Grade: 12th Artist Statement: In my photograph, I tell a dystopian narrative that is demonstrated through the details in my work. The scene depicts an empty vehicle with its headlights on at dusk, and it appears to be recently abandoned, as if it was carjacked. Like vehicles, people are mobile, and their control in choosing their destinations represents their drivers. There is no driver to be seen in the photograph, and therefore, no destination for the vehicle. Because the vehicle was carjacked, it lost its freedom to choose, as a different driver chose to divert it from its destination. As the vehicle was left abandoned, its headlights shimmered brightly,…
