Poppy Field

April 2, 2018 ASAA

(2nd Place – Textile/Fiber Design)

Title of Art Piece: Poppy Field
Category: Textile/Fiber Design – 2018
Student/Artist’s Name: Nathan Jones
School: Service High School
Grade: 10th
Artist Statement:

I enjoy art for about the same reason I enjoy films and books so much; because it provides an interesting perspective on certain topics, allows the creator to express themselves, and because they can look really cool. I don’t think this piece means much at all, I just wanted to see if I could accomplish the same transparency/depth effects from watercolor landscapes with the batik process. But art in general means a lot to me, because I enjoy the feeling of artistic freedom and the ability to express myself in any way i choose; the same way any director or writer feels. I think that creating is just part of human nature, whether it be a story, a person, or a painting of a bunch of flowers in an open field.
