Artist Statement: I wanted to create an unsettling feeling. The boy is disintegrating, while the woman doesn’t care and the man is taking a photo of it. This is how I personally feel about society. While tragedy is running rampant around the world, some chose to ignore it and others capture it just because they think it’s funny. Some people might capture it to show the world the negativity and bring attention to it, but no matter what, there will be people who ignore it or even try to justify it. I chose the title because while something is obviously wrong, some would chose to label it as “normal” or try to justify it by saying “it’s not that bad”. Though society is not perfect, there are ways to speak up and bring attention to it, which is what I did by creating this project.
All three of the people are from different photos, and I used Photoshop to stitch them all together. I needed to take the two adults in the corner and paste them onto the background photo with the boy. I think it’s cool that I was able to take them from different lighting scenarios and synthesize then together (albeit a little choppily).
