Pachycephalosaurus Lidded Vessel

Artist Statement: The piece was made through a mixture of different hand-building techniques. A majority of the piece was made using the soft slab technique, including the body and lid of the pot, and I then used sculpting techniques to add the Pachycephalosaurus to the top of the lid. On the inside of the lid, I used the sgraffito technique to create a scene of a mother Pachycephalosaurus taking its baby to a watering hole.
For the glazes I used predominantly underglazes except on the interior of the inside of the pot where I poured a finished glaze. On the body and lid I had a mix of smooth portions and places I pressed a pattern into the clay. On the smooth portions I used a yellow underglaze, and inside the lid I used a dark blue. After the first firing I put a layer of black underglaze over the whole piece to give a weathered look.
