Mermaids

Artist Statement: This piece is inspired by one of my favorite Disney movies, “The Little Mermaid”. I wanted to depict mermaids going about their daily lives in an underwater kingdom. The mermaid in the center is trying on different jewelry, and the one to the right is a soldier/guard watching out for potential danger. The ocean is a very beautiful place, but can be very deadly at times. I had four different drafts for the composition but decided on this one because I wanted to include more details in the background. Creating this drawing was a good challenge because I have never made something this big before.
