Looking through the Keyhole

March 2, 2014 ASAA

(2nd Place – Ceramics)

Title of Art Piece: Looking through the Keyhole
Category: Ceramics – 2014
Student/Artist’s Name: Aiden Moody
School: Lathrop High School
Grade: 12th
Artist Statement: I’ve enjoyed the challenge of creating forms with stacked pots this semester. For me, it is exciting to have a vision and then to see the form come to life piece by piece. I’ve also worked with hollow wheel-thrown doughnuts in a lot of my work, so for this piece it was fun to combine both techniques to create a lidded vessel with so many unique shapes and elements. I really like the delicate cut-outs near the top allowing light to play through the solid form. The lid is like a keyhole that one can’t help but look through.
