Lobster Man

March 11, 2014 ASAA

Title of Art Piece: Lobster Man
Category: Painting – 2014
Student/Artist’s Name: Sean Gill
School: Kodiak High School
Grade: 12th
Artist Statement: My father is an incredible man. He does everything he can to ensure our family is happy. About a year and a half ago my father accepted a job in Anchorage Alaska so that I could stay in Kodiak for the remainder of my high school years. I currently live with my mother who has a job here in Kodiak. This separation is a struggle for our family; we miss him very often, and he misses us. I created this painting as a gift to my father to both serve as a reminder that I love him and assure him that being able to stay in Alaska is worth the struggle. I used the tools I learned while attending Kodiak High School to recreate a memory we share of a time when my father and I were very happy. Nothing makes my dad happier than fishing on a boat with his family.
