Artist Statement: When I think of home, I think of my family. My family are my biggest supporters and are always there for me. Another thing that I think of when I think of home are memories. I have so many great memories from so many places, but for this painting I wanted to focus on one of my favorite places in Montana with one of my favorite people, my sister. The place pictured is a carousel/ice cream shop in the small town where we lived. It was mine and my sister’s favorite place to go, and with all the bright colors, lights, and sweet treats, there was no better place in town. In the painting, I tried to capture the hand painted carousel horses and the bright colors that give the childish energy that come to mind when I think of Montana. My memories of living in Montana are slowly fading away, but doing a painting like this really made me think of so many of the great times I had while living there. While working on this project, it really made me rethink how I think of home. While the literal definition is where one lives, I think home is much more. It can be anything from a place, to a person, to a memory, and to me, it is all of those.
