My piece, “Good Things Age Like Fine Wine,” is one of many in a central theme I am exploring through my studio art course. This image is a part of a series that exposes the elderly. Because our society idealizes youth and beauty and physical hard work, they are an important demographic that often go ignored, due to their inability to provide the aforementioned. The figures in my piece are engaged in a passionate kiss, seemingly atypical of their age. Their zeal and desperation, expressed primarily by the man who is clutching the woman’s face with his hand, resembles that of teenagers blinded by love or lust. Additionally, the image is rendered entirely with charcoal, whose textured and soft appearance aid in the composition of the subject matter.
