Forgiven

(3rd Place – Multicultural Art)

Title of Art Piece: Forgiven
Category: Multicultural Art
Student/Artist’s Name: Rachel Emrick
School: Palmer High School
Grade: 11th

Artist Statement: My drum portrays the story of the prodigal son from Luke 15, in the Bible. I used traditional Native Alaskan symbols and the formline design style of art. The eagle means strength and provider, which represents the father. The goose symbolizes homecoming and the dragonfly symbolizes an ever changing life, which represents the son. The handle says Luke 15:11 in Yupik, to make the drum even more Alaskan.

Drum’s diameter measures 18 inches. Drum handle measures 10 x 1.5 x 1.5 inches.
