Running Inspiration

Running Inspiration

Title of Art Piece: Running Inspiration
Category: Drawing
Student/Artist’s Name: William Hail
School: Eagle River High School
Grade: 9th

Artist Statement: In this picture I chose to depict Trevor Dunbar winning Nike nationals in the two-mile. As a runner, Trevor serves as an inspiration for me because not only is he fast, but he is also level headed, smart and from Alaska. Someday I would like to be fast like he is but also stay in advanced classes. The reason I chose to depict this event was because Nike nationals is a prestigious event and Trevor also finished the race way ahead of the rest of the pack which displays his abilities as a runner. I chose to use pencil because it is my favorite thing to draw with and because of its blending properties I was able to create a desirable blurred effect to the background of the picture, which would draw the viewer’s focus to the subject.
