Mellow Cello

April 4, 2012 ASAA

Mellow Cello

(Honorable Mention – Drawing)

Title of Art Piece: Mellow Cello
Category: Drawing
Student/Artist’s Name: Khou Yang
School: Lathrop High School
Grade: 12th

Artist Statement: I was inspired by the slow and low toned sound of the cello. Many times when I listen to classical music that has a cello solo, its often a sad and sorrowful tone and so when I was creating this piece I thought that by using a mime to mimick playing a cello with a tear slowly sliding of his left cheek would really be dramatic. I also thought that with a lot of shadow; it may also create a dramatic effect. Sepia color also matches this peice. Also with having the two famous theator mask on the sides of the mime tells the audience that its nothing more then just an act; but even though it may just be an act, we all know for a fact that mimes tend to be very over dramatic with their acting.
