Cultural Mash-Up Characters

April 1, 2018 ASAA

(1st Place – Communication Arts/Graphic Design)

Title of Art Piece: Cultural Mash-Up Characters
Category: Communication Arts / Graphic Design – 2018
Student/Artist’s Name: Claire Scott and Josephine Engstrom
School: Juneau-Douglas High School
Grade: 9th
Artist Statement:

I developed these characters to represent different cultural interests: my favorite era in history, Victorian, my favorite exotic culture, Japanese, a traditional culture of my family, Billy the Kid and the Wild West, and current Pop-culture, represented by a Kardashian taking a selfie. They share a common element of fitted armor. It is done in alcohol markers.
