Title of Art Piece: Cherried Leaves
Category: Ceramics – 2025
Student/Artist’s Name: Siri Srisaneha
School: Bettye Davis East Anchorage High School
Grade: 12th
Artist Statement: Before I started pottery, I focused mainly on painting. As a freshman, I was put into a pottery class and fell in love. Once I became more skilled, I found that I could combine both of my skills into one with the discovery of underglaze. Since then I have explored the many way of using underglazes on my pieces. This piece is special to me because I wanted to have a jar with a lid that fit perfectly. I spend a lot of time practicing a technique where you throw a closed form, then use a blade to slice the lid off, and finally trim a flange for the jar lid to fit securely. I found that pottery is a labor of love and tears, I am very proud of this piece and all of the time I have spent to get to this point.
