Artist Statement: I was inspired to make this piece by the unique elements of nature in Alaska and the fascinating stories behind them. Cross-country skiing has taught me to love and appreciate the outdoors so I decided to make a piece that represents the correlation between man and nature. Alaska’s uniqueness allowed me to explore through this piece…the vibrant shades of blue that everyone enjoys in the skies here, and then I wanted to add a true piece of Alaskan wildlife with an actual antler. I chose a large lidded vessel because I wanted an impressive form to express the vastness of the outdoors. This piece is important to me because it represents the connection of man and nature in Alaska, and the importance of preserving wildlife not just in Alaska, but everywhere.
