Blooms and Scales

Artist Statement: This print is a two color reduction linocut depicting a snake winding around itself with flowers growing in the center. The first step of making this print was to plan out colors, line weight, and to take into consideration the contrast between the snake and flowers. After printing the starting layer in light pink, any areas which were to remain that way were carved away to print the second layer in magenta. The goal of this piece was to play with contrast, design, color, and become familiar with new printmaking techniques. I wanted to showcase the fluidity and grace of the snake against the elegant vibrancy of the flowers.
