Artist Statement: I am adopted. I never got to grow up with my biological family. Though knowing my adoptive family chose me, makes me beyond grateful. They took me in and raised me as their own. I was only 9 months old. Throughout the years I have been realizing that I am so much like my adoptive mom. I get most of my traits from her. If I were to be nature vs nurture, I would be nurture for sure. One thing that we have that is different is that my adoptive parents are Caucasian and I am Alaskan Native. Even though they aren’t native, they are as close to native as they can be without having it in their blood. I was raised in nature. In summer we go camping, four-wheeling, blueberry picking, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, and many other outdoor activities. I created this painting to express who I am as a person.
