Artist Statement: In my photograph, I tell a dystopian narrative that is demonstrated through the details in my work. The scene depicts an empty vehicle with its headlights on at dusk, and it appears to be recently abandoned, as if it was carjacked. Like vehicles, people are mobile, and their control in choosing their destinations represents their drivers. There is no driver to be seen in the photograph, and therefore, no destination for the vehicle. Because the vehicle was carjacked, it lost its freedom to choose, as a different driver chose to divert it from its destination. As the vehicle was left abandoned, its headlights shimmered brightly, passionately displaying its unfulfilled ambitions. Like some people in the world, the vehicle was unable to choose its own destination, nor could it fulfill its ambitions. The aftermath of a carjacking, which is displayed in my photograph, indicates the value of personal choice, and elicits the message that one should make their own choices in life before someone else chooses for them.
