Artist Statement: When I created this piece, I wanted to represent the beauty and meaning of both jellyfish and pomegranates. Jellyfish have been my favorite animals since I was little because of their delicate but almost ethereal form. For me, they represent rebirth and resilience as they live on for millions of years, floating through the ocean as if suspended in time. Pomegranates are typically seen as messy and annoying to eat because of the seeds they carry within their fruit. These seeds represent the many possibilities within a single life, and if you take the time to have patience, you can have something beautiful instead of a “mess”. By combining these two elements, I aimed to create a piece representing the love I have for both jellyfish and pomegranates while also showing that not everything is how they seem.
