Artist Statement: This piece symbolizes the wildlife of Southeast Alaska and the way it survives our harsh unforgiving winters. The sunlight peaking through the trees is the moment of hope arriving after being caught in the darkness; from the towering spruce trees to the small bees in our city, they all have patience to wait for the sun, the warm, and the good. To live through the dark and dreary times the same as the people do. Every piece of vegetation returns with color in spring and that tiny peak of sunlight is what we all need to continue on and live.
