Blue Ocean

Artist Statement: The artwork I made is called “Blue Ocean,” and the process I used is watercolor and block printing. I started off by printing a picture of a turtle and was ready to do the block print. The block printing process was a bit of a struggle for me because I wanted the print to be centered, which took me a lot of time, but it was worth it. For the watercolor part, I used different shades of blue for the background, and for the turtle, I used various shades of green for its arms and legs. Lastly, I used two shades of orange for the turtle’s shell. I applied the techniques by dabbing the paintbrush and painting spots with different shades of blue.What inspired me to do this project is how much I miss the ocean, and I would say that my artwork expresses a calm emotion. One of my goals with this art is to improve my watercolor skills and gain more experience. This final piece is exactly what I wanted to create, and I’m really glad that I have the talent to do it. I’m looking forward to continuing to improve with watercolor.
