Artist Statement: My quadriptych artwork is composed of chalk pastel pencils and various techniques such as hatching, scumbling, and stippling. The piece was inspired by Claude Monet after analyzing his studies of light, for example, his Rouen Cathedral series. The photographs that I used as my reference were taken in the Turiec region in central Slovakia by Jozef Morgoš. The picturesque area is known for its mountains, springs, etc., and is sometimes referred to as the “Garden of Turiec.” My ultimate goal for my work was to capture the fleeting moments of light and atmosphere through the changing of the seasons. Furthermore, I had anticipated it would express a serene feel; the stillness of watching seasons pass by, an unhidden gift in nature. The changing of leaves reminds me of my younger days, constantly observing and examining key details of each season. Art can be a pretty nostalgic thing, and in this case, it is a record of youth.
