Artist Statement: My four pastel drawings on 12×12 construction paper depict scientific references which have significantly altered the state of human minds and the ground which we are standing on. The piece is inspired by scumbling and scribbling drawing techniques, which emphasizes the unique visuals and textures of the objects I am trying to draw. The subjects include scientific references like Schrödinger’s cat, Newton’s apple, the mushroom cloud of an atomic bomb, and. The placement of the pieces combines and creates a sense of fluidity and movement to the body of work. The fluidity and implied movement resonates with the complex advancements which enabled human society to move forwards towards the future we have today. As art symbolizes the soul, and its feelings, I think science is akin in a way: it is the action based on our reaction against the unknown.
