Artist Statement:
I have always loved working with clay. It is so freeing and easy to maneuver. Whenever I get the chance to use it, I try making pieces that can be gifts for my loved ones or useful for my own needs. For this piece, I wanted to create a goblet for my father to match a drinking glass my mother has had for years. Although I used her cup for inspiration, this goblet really came to life entirely in my own eyes. I used a combination of the coil technique for the decorative handle and the slab technique for base and cup itself. After it was fired I dipped its base in a mat glaze and its top in two different blue mid-range gloss glazes.
