The Constant Turmoil Between Omnipotent Figures and Modern Society

April 17, 2019 ASAA

(3rd Place – Drawing)

Title of Art Piece: The Constant Turmoil Between Omnipotent Figures and Modern Society
Category: Drawing – 2019
Student/Artist’s Name: Nataly Maldonado
School: Eagle River High School
Grade: 11th
Artist Statement:

I started this piece with nothing but a rough idea of what I wanted to do and a picture of a girl I just really wanted to draw. As time went on, I started to realize that this drawing really symbolized me. I chose cherubs to represent religion in my life and how its always been a constant presence since I was young. As we grow older, the traditions we were born into may not completely fit our worldview. The girl I really wanted to draw became a personal representation of choices I face as I define my identity.
