Title of Art Piece: 78336
Category: Mixed Media – 2017
Student/Artist’s Name: Kaitlyn Christopher

Artist Statement:

I took inspiration from Native American head dress and the idea of a powerful queen. After I did the drawing a decided to include cutouts throughout the piece to allow the background of triangle cutouts to show through. The background can be seen as the queens power colors as well as fire from the chaos that she instills.

Illuminating Jellyfish

April 10, 2017 ASAA

Title of Art Piece: Illuminating Jellyfish
Category: Communication Arts / Graphic Design – 2017
Student/Artist’s Name: Rylee Stanton
School: South Anchorage High School
Grade: 12th
Artist Statement:

The objective of this piece was to create a sense of unity between people and animals. To bring in focus into the artwork, I chose only one jelly fish to stand out with the color orange. I also used the jelly fish to create movement in the piece. While drawing this, I kept in mind to use warm tones to help keep the piece unified. I used “Clip Studio Paint” to create this image.

This piece was inspired by music which the artist used to express their past sorrows, insecurities, and regrets. I believe that this general idea resonates strongly with many, especially youth, and I chose to convey it through a portrait. I hoped to communicate the deep emotions of this concept, as well as the personal connection I made while creating this work.
