Ambers Truth

Title of Art Piece: Ambers Truth
Category: Painting – 2015
Student/Artist’s Name: Amber Bennett
School: Service High School
Grade: 12th
Artist Statement: Creating art is my ultimate escape from the daily stresses and struggles of this adventure many call life. Ever since I can remember, I have loved art and color. Something about color, whether I’m simply observing color, wearing color, or working with color, sparks some sort of motivational force within me. I am my own worst enemy when it comes to creating things. I have always been very doubtful in my ability to use color in a way I can feel positive about. In my experience with creating art, I’ve never successfully been able to recreate myself on any sort of medium, until this piece. Creating this portrait allowed me to separate myself from all of the negative energy that manifests when I regularly make art. I wanted to look at my first self portrait and be able to absorb positive energy for once. Working with color has allowed me to put all of the self deprecating thoughts and negative energy I have aside, long enough to create something I can feel positive about.

(3rd Place – Painting)

Title of Art Piece: Victorian Sea
Category: Painting – 2015
Student/Artist’s Name: Jessica Conn
School: Service High School
Grade: 12th
Artist Statement: The piece was inspired by the tranquility of the sea, and the repetitive ebb and flow of the waves that are like a heartbeat. The woman reading displays the peace and serenity that the ocean can bring to us, as she is in a total state of relaxation. Her Victorian clothing was inspired by old photos of Victorian families at the beach, showing that spending time at the beach is truly timeless.
