Contrasts

April 10, 2017 ASAA

Title of Art Piece: Contrasts
Category: Painting – 2017
Student/Artist’s Name: Jubilee Graff
School: Lumen Christi High School
Grade: 9th
Artist Statement:

I was drawn to the idea of taking two very different colors and putting them together to create a beautiful effect. I love using shades of pink and blue, so I thought, why not paint the two colors together? I’ve always loved those pretty trees with the lovely pink flowers on them, so I decided to compose my own version of an entire forest of those trees. I’d like to think of myself walking along that mysterious path into the distant yellowish light guiding me, not knowing where it leads as the soft pink flowers petals rain down on me.

Sea Gazer

April 10, 2017 ASAA

Title of Art Piece: Sea Gazer
Category: Drawing – 2017
Student/Artist’s Name: Jubilee Graff
School: Lumen Christi High School
Grade: 9th
Artist Statement:

She is the sea gazer, ever watchful. She watches over her blue kingdom, and all of the various creatures, big and small, scaled and finned. Like the sea gazer, we must always keep an eye on the sea, for it is our kingdom as well. Have we cared for the sea as the sea gazer has? Or do we turn our backs to it, allowing those who reside to be overpowered by waste, pollution, and the result of our carelessness? What right do we have to call ourselves caretakers of the sea? Are we truly sea gazers?

Wanderer’s Stare

April 10, 2017 ASAA

Title of Art Piece: Wanderer’s Stare
Category: Drawing – 2017
Student/Artist’s Name: Jubilee Graff
School: Lumen Christi High School
Grade: 9th
Artist Statement:

Wolves have always been my favorite animal, and I wanted that to be reflected in this drawing. I wanted the focus of this drawing to be of the wolf’s wise stare, her piercing blue eyes contrasting with the snow. She is truly on with the night, her fur blurring together with the small fury. I can almost hear the wind echoing through a barren pine forest in the cold hours of night as I draw her.
