I photographed this elephant in Malawi, Africa with a 200-500 mm telephoto lens. This particular elephant was a young bull looking for a mate.

Our class was working with UV light photography, and I saw that the flower was glowing. The flower is attached to my teacher’s pen. I brought the flower to Angelina and she started to hold the flower in different ways. It wasn’t planned. It just happened.
I was on the sidewalk in downtown Anchorage, and I saw the dogs lined up. They were so excited to race, they were jumping up and down. I thought it would be great to capture the moment.
I wanted to make a piece to show how much I appreaciate and enjoy photography. During the blind contour project there was a camera, I thought it would be a perfect time.
It was a really long and hard peice of work to finish. I learned how to make and use a momonchromatic color scheme to create value. While making my piece I felt love, anger, disapointment, sadness, and happiness. The girl in the painting is someone who used to be the biggest happiness in my life.
In my piece, Reflections, I researched the artist Paul Signac. In my assignment I needed to borrow a skill that the artist used and make it my own. The technique I used was pointillism and Paul Signac also inspired my subject since he would paint subjects from where he lived. I thought to paint a scene from the state that I live, Alaska. I wanted to make this piece to capture how beautiful Alaska is. The process was very excruciating because I had to put dots of acrylic paint to create an image. I learned patience from this painting. I wanted to send the message to not take for granted the beautiful landscapes around you.
I love drawing portraits, and drawing this picture was especially enjoyable because of the amount of emotion I was able to capture within it. I used a variety of inks and makers to create Ecstatic, and quickly it came to life. Overall I’m pretty happy with the piece, and I am excited to draw more things like this in the future.
The process of painting this picture was a long one, because of all the layers, and finding the right colors repeatedly. Like so many other beginnings, when I first started I didn’t like anything about it besides the background. I didn’t think I was able to paint it how I pictured it in my mind, but it all came through in the end. I learned that somethings take a lot more time than we think. I learned that especially with art, it may not look its best when you start but if you continue working through the inconveniences and believing in yourself that you can do it.
My piece “Her Nature” is a self-portrait that depicts how I see my hair and how other black girls should see their hair. Our kinky, tight coils are not tangled and nappy, but are as beautiful as the nature around us. What made me choose this subject is that a lot of girls with my hair texture feel insecure about their hair because they think it is ugly when it is actually pretty in its unique way.
Creating this monochromatic piece was very challenging for me. After lots of hard work, and even starting over. I can say this was the piece I was most proud of.

What really inspired me to make this piece was where I lived the majority of my life. I chose a wolf as my piece because I really like and adore wolves. Learning how to make the words fit and choosing the right words was challenging. I wanted to portray that wolves are independent and strong. The process of this whole thing was pretty though. Overcoming most of the obstacles completing this piece was challenging. I learn how to use photoshop and most of the basics about it. I’ve also learned that hard work and time brings out something beautiful.

This picture shows how much depth Alaska has. I went out with my sister and my friend to take photos of the sunset on Turnagain Arm. The sky changed and the clouds lifted. I love the scenery here, but I love the figures in the photo too. The people show how epic our elements are.

I took this photo on a really cold night. We went out to an abandoned ship and whirled steel wool. I love all the photos from these shots, but this is one of my favorites. I have it in color, but there is something special about the black and white.
