Originally, this piece was just another vase, but our tectonic plates had a different idea. The first time this piece broke, somebody tried to pick it up from the top before it was fired. In an attempt to save he vase, I used underglaze to glue the pieces back together. While it was firing in the glaze kiln, a 7.0 earthquake hit. Most of my pieces were broken, yet my vase remained somewhat in tact, I needed to glue the pieces that broke off again, and fix some of the glaze that ad chipped off. While it was waiting to be fired, another person tried to pick it up by the broken part, breaking it a third time. I glued the pieces together once again, and crossed my fingers while it was firing in the glaze kiln. When it came out of the kiln, the three pieces had slid down the side of the vase, each making a contrail of different colored underglaze. Even though it was a very frustrating and tedious process, each setback added character, and I have grown to appreciate unexpected outcomes.
