Political TV

April 1, 2017 ASAA

(1st Place – Sculpture)

Title of Art Piece: Political TV
Category: Sculpture – 2017
Student/Artist’s Name: Aidyn Dervaes
School: Palmer High School
Grade: 11th
Artist Statement:

My piece politic TV has a strong use of iconography. It is about disconnection of people and politics, and the now-existing strong connection between the media and our government. The television represents the media and my statue of liberty is a representation of our country and government. It is about how our country is controlled by media. I made my sculpture large so that the viewer can look into the screen, I created a three minute video containing historical images, accompanied by a count down between every 4-5 three second clips. The ending of the video is ten seconds of television static and then the video picks back up at the begining. Rudolf Baranik was a large inspiration for this piece and his government defying work.
