Somewhere in my mundane life there is a world full of mystery awaiting me, that is what my art is for and what this watercolor painting portrays. This watercolor painting illustrates a dark forest full of shadows and greenery that hides a blue and almost ghostlike girl sitting on a tree stump with a wistful presence. This girl leaves you wondering and wanting more. Wondering why she is hiding in this enchanted forest, wondering, “What she is? Is she a fairy? Nymph? Or maybe a goddess?” She hides behind a cloak of mystery which leaves you wanting more. To create this whimsical mystery I used watercolor techniques to help with the fairytale presence. I used negative space to make the girl have a certain glow and to really make sure she was the focal point. My goals as an artist are to create things that inspire me and to tell people who I am. This painting helped me think more outside of the box and understand what I want to see from my art and myself in the future. I want to create pieces with mystical subject matters that are very different from reality. Painting gives me the opportunity to be a storyteller.
