(1st Place – Sculpture)

“Forget-us-not” is it cardboard sculpture. It’s puny title is dual meaning first the flowers on the branches around the comb are forget me nots. Second it is to remind us to admire the simple little things. Bees are often written off as a garden pest, but in reality they are complex creatures with a close knit social structure, with a ridiculous amount of work ethic as well as some of nature’s tiniest architects. I enjoyed adding lots of small details as well as working with vibrant natural colors, But my favorite aspect is the mix between the sturdy geometric pattern of the honeycomb and the natural free-flowing shapes of the branches and bees; it’s a fun reminder that a mix of both are found in nature.
