Artist Statement:

In my piece “Feeling Blue”, I used many different pieces of symbolism to show the true meaning. I made this piece to represent my own personal struggles with depression, and hopefully inspire others with my work. Some symbolism represented in my piece includes the hands, smog around head, etc. The hands are meant to represent how depression holds you back in so many ways when you let it take over and consume you. The smog coming out of the neck is meant to represent the deep, negative emotions that surround you, leaving you feeling numb. (hence the facial expression) Another part of the piece is the jar around the head, the jar is meant to represent being isolated and feeling stuck, like there’s no escape. There is more symbolism along with this piece, but those are the main points. Just know, if you are struggling, don’t be afraid to reach out. I hope my piece can leave an impact, and help speak up about mental health awareness.
