Title of Art Piece: Different Attention
Category: Sculpture – 2016
Student/Artist’s Name: Jheaniquea Lucero
School: Palmer High School
Grade: 12th
Artist Statement: I made this multiples art piece that is similar to Antony Gormley’s The Field. The central figure is being judged. The figures in the crowd are the judgers. In the crowd, the people with arms are spreading rumors or making upset gestures. The other shapes without arms are the listeners; they listen to the ‘arms’ and judge the center person. This piece is based on the alienation people feel who are homosexual and transgendered. I chose clay to give two different views, birds-eye and ground level, because the work is three dimensional. The dark red symbolizes hatred or anger. The pink represents transgender identity and the rainbow refers to gay/lesbian sexuality.
Artwork Dimensions: 19.5 wide x 15.5 deep x 5″ tall
