Diamond of St.Paul

April 6, 2018 ASAA

Title of Art Piece: Diamond of St.Paul
Category: Jewelry / Metalsmithing – 2018
Student/Artist’s Name: Jasmin Woods
School: Service High School
Grade: 12th
Artist Statement:

My name is Jasmine Wilson, I’m a senior at Robert Service High school. I have taken every art class that is available at my school since my sophomore year at Service. While also taking art classes and doing art outside of school. I created this ring for my little brother. It is made out of pewter with an additional piece (a stone that appears to be a Pyroxene mineral) that I handpicked from black diamond hill on St. Paul Island (St. Paul is one of four volcanic islands located in the bearing sea.) This ring is special because of the stone, the stone is from St. Paul Island, it’s unique in its own way. It’s not the kind of stone that you can find when walking around when in Anchorage. It is also special because I do not get to go to St. Paul very often so I was very lucky to have been able to go then to make a ring with a piece with it.
