Logo for Latitude 58

April 16, 2015 ASAA

RhyannTimmLogo3
(Honorable Mention – Communication Arts / Graphic Design)

Title of Art Piece: Logo for Latitude 58
Category: Communication Arts / Graphic Design – 2015
Student/Artist’s Name: Rhyann Ashcroft
School: Thunder Mountain High School
Grade: 12th
Artist Statement: This piece was inspired by one of our teachers, Timm Henry, who asked for a logo design for his photography website. Mr. Henry has helped us with a lot of activities by taking awesome pictures, this is a sign for gratitude. My design is a lens from a camera that is capturing Alaskan Scenery, the aurora borealis and ice. To create it, I used Adobe Illustrator, changed a mountain into ice by using the color gradient tool, and shined it up with the sun flare tool. I feel that this represents the hidden beauty of Alaska that reflects in a photographer’s eyes.

This is Who We Are

April 16, 2015 ASAA

TMHS-This-Is-Who-We-Are
(2nd Place – Communication Arts / Graphic Design)

Title of Art Piece: “This is Who We Are
Category: Communication Arts / Graphic Design – 2015
Student/Artist’s Name: Sonny Mauricio
School: Thunder Mountain High School
Grade: 10th
Artist Statement: I designed this for our school Yearbook front and back cover – Thunder Mountain High School, the home of falcons. It shows who we really are: we are the Thunder, the proud Falcons and, of course, we are Alaskans.
I used the actual picture of Alaska that we took with our Yearbook class and blended it with drawing and typography using photoshop. The clouds and the lightning were drawn by me from scratch – all of them. I used multiple types of brushes for that. I started with a base sketch idea and over multiple tries and about 4 or 5 different versions until the image was completed.
