Title of Art Piece: Weathered Worlds
Category: Ceramics – 2017
Student/Artist’s Name: Lake Siner
School: Thunder Mountain High School
Grade: 11th
Artist Statement:

I am obsessed with perfection. I began making lids one year ago and have been striving for the perfect fit. With these piece I have achieved my goal. To make the fit even better, after the glaze firing I used silica carbide and almond oil to polish the area where the lid and base meet. The fit is tight and smooth on all three pieces. A while back I was using an agate stone to polish greenware and discovered chattering. I have used this technique with various chattering tools in most of my pieces. For the glaze, I wanted to emphasize the alternating chattering and dots and this matt glaze gave the results I was wanting. It also gives a weathered look which fits the entire set.

Artwork Dimensions: 10" tall X 4.5" wide (for tallest piece)
