Throughout this process of making this set, I combined two different colored clays to create this series of agateware. I colored the blue clay by wedging in Mason stains to a white clay body. I made all pieces light weight and flared the rims to make them more functional. After making each piece I used a metal rib to scrape off the excess clay to show the beautiful swirls within the clay. I experimented with varied sized flutting tools with different designs to expose the layers of colored clay. I hand pulled each handle and placed them accordingly so the weight would be balanced in the user’s hand.
